CHURCH ON THE ROCK – WOMEN OF WORTH (WOW)

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well” (Psalm 139:14). This verse has been the guiding scripture for what the Women’s Ministry, Women of Worth (WOW), has been at Church on The Rock (COTR). WOW has been and continues to be a support system and an opportunity for women to develop spiritually. A core value of the ministry is the belief that every woman should reach her fullest potential in Christ by firstly seeking Him and understanding His unfailing love towards her.

As WOW champions the women of the church to be all that they can be for Christ, the ministry ensures that prayer is an integral part of the women’s daily walk. As such, when the church has its yearly prayer and fast during the month of January, the women come out in their numbers on the first Saturday of the prayer and fast to petition God for their various needs. The prayers answered during this time have been numerous. From this, WOW has begun bi-monthly early-morning prayer meetings for the women. This has significantly aided in the women’s development as they are able to grow in various areas of ministry, be it worship, deliverance, or chairing, to name a few.

Whilst taking care to strengthen the women spiritually, WOW makes every effort to ensure the women are physically and emotionally strong as well. As such, WOW has held its Walk for Health every year since 2013 during the Easter weekend. The exercise, combined with a healthy breakfast, teaching on wellness, and lively fellowship, ensures the Walk is one of WOW’s most anticipated events for the year. Other exciting events have been the Women’s Night Out and Women’s Breakfast Lime that have been held numerous times and, for the first time in 2018, a Women’s Business Exposition that was organised to support and encourage the women of COTR who are already in business or who might be interested in starting businesses of their own.

Over the years, WOW has been led by some very dynamic women. Sister Dianne Jackson was the first WOW President at COTR, a woman of prayer and wisdom. She has now gone on to meet the Lord and WOW is eternally grateful for her labour of love. Following in Sis. Jackson’s footsteps was Sis. Patricia Charles. She faithfully continued where Sis. Jackson left off until Sis. Ava Simon-Thompson became WOW President and took the ministry in a slightly different direction, making it a more visible one. A new day is now dawning for WOW as Sis. Simon-Thompson’s term has been completed and Sis. Beverly Smith has become the new President. The goal and focus remain, however, that God’s purpose will continue to be accomplished in the women in ministry, and that they will be shown love and care through WOW.
