SHEKINAH HOMEWORK ACADEMY

The Shekinah Homework Academy of Church on The Rock (COTR) was launched in 2008 after Rev. Agard learned that some of the primary school students in the church and in Morvant sometimes had difficulty successfully completing their homework because of various challenges in their lives. Rev. Agard was moved to help. There was space available in the church to meet the need, so Rev. Agard made a call to the congregation for volunteers and Sis. Florence Fraser answered the call.

Rev. Dr. Charmaine Alexis of Laventille Open Bible Church (LOB) assisted in setting up the Academy, based on her experience with LOB’s programme of the same name. The Academy started with seven of COTR’s youths volunteering alongside Sis. Fraser for a couple of hours three days a week after school and at first, they met in classrooms set up beyond the foyer on the ground floor of the building. When Lower Morvant Government Primary School (LMGPS) began renting the area from the church, the Academy was relocated to the Conference Room and Harrison Hall.

The Academy has had children from all walks of life enter its doors. Sis. Fraser has taken a personal interest in all of them and has sought to assist them in any way she can. She has not limited the sessions to academics, wanting to take the opportunity she has with the children to help them in their spiritual development. Sis. Fraser ensures that the students pray together after every session. Her heart’s desire is that parents would be more committed to their children, helping them to achieve all that they are meant to and lead happy and fulfilling lives.
