Church On the Rock Mission Department

The Church on The Rock (COTR) Missions Department started 11 years ago with Bro. Errol and Sis. Janoura Collymore and a few others. Travelling to various countries in the region, the Missions team has achieved great success in spreading the gospel. The Department regularly engages in raising awareness of the importance of missions, recruiting new members to the team, and fundraising activities.

In 2008, Sis. Collymore, Sis. Tricia Lalmah, Sis. Arlene Caines, Sis. Genise Chapman and Bro. Michael Alleyne travelled to Guyana on the team’s first mission trip. Out of this came the Missions Department at COTR, with the knowledge that there were souls in other parts of the Caribbean region who needed to be won for Christ and might be difficult to reach because of their remote locations. In the years since, the team has made multiple trips to Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Guyana, usually during the July-August vacation. On the trips, they are hosted by local churches which collaborate with them to share the gospel of Christ on the ground.

On the field, the Missions team splits up into separate groups that are then assigned to different districts in which to operate. At their separate locations, team members engage in children’s ministry, distribution of school bags and stationery and food hampers, street meetings, house to house evangelism, deeper life services, prayer breakfasts, training of church leadership, and ministry to men, women and youths. The teams are allowed to lead Sunday Services at the churches where they are hosted. They also make follow-up visits in the month of December to bring Christmas cheer to the churches and to check on their wellbeing.

The Department raises awareness of the ministry through any means they can. They conduct annual Missions Services where they decorate COTR with the flags of the countries they have visited or plan to visit, and share a report and testimonies from recent trips. Through these awareness activities, the group garners financial support and added human resources. COTR members donate the school bags and stationery the team takes with it to help children prepare for the new school year. The Department also raises funds through garage sales, donation letters to COTR members, and through catering for events.

The COTR Missions Department is a group of individuals that passionately believes in the power of missions to advance the Kingdom of God. They joyfully and tirelessly carry the gospel of Christ wherever they go to ensure that God’s will is done on earth, even in remote areas. They look forward to being part of even more testimonies of the goodness of God in the years to come.
